In Aß2m amyloidosis amyloid is deposited in synovial tissue of patients who have been dialysed for many years (at least 5 years and often minimal 10-15 years). Carpal tunnel syndrome (nocturnal pain and tingling in hand and fingers) is often the first manifestation. Later other symptoms such as shoulder pain develop and radiographic cystic lucencies may be seen in bone tissue around joints such as shoulders, hips, knees, wrists, and fingers. The vertebral column can also be involved in this process.
